Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon
& Diamond Beach
We took a day trip by coach from Iceland’s capital, Reykjavík, to southern Iceland, with our final destination being Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach. Formed by melting glacial ice, Jökulsárlón is a powerful reminder of how Iceland’s glaciers are changing as global temperatures rise, with consequences for landscapes, wildlife and sea levels far beyond Iceland. The lagoon is also home to curious harbour seals, which can often be spotted swimming between the icebergs. Across the road, Diamond Beach is scattered with ice carried from the lagoon to the Atlantic Ocean, creating a striking landscape where the beauty of nature sits alongside the visible impacts of a warming climate.
